Race 1: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS CLASS 1 PLATE – 2200M

BIGMORDRIVE – L. Londregan reported that his mount overraced in the early and middle stages.

BLAZING INFERNO – Overraced in the middle stages.

MCGILL – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that her mount laid in rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.

REALLY SURE – M. Cahill dropped his whip over the concluding stages. M. Cahill reported to stewards that the filly was reluctant to hold a position throughout the race and was under significant pressure after passing the 600m , however finished the race off reasonably. He added that it would be his recommendation to connections to race the filly in blinkers. M. Cahill was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In considering penalty, stewards took into account jockey Cahill’s exemplary record.

GODWOOD – Shifted wider passing the 1400m and improved to a position outside the lead passing the 1100m. Obliged to alter course to secure clear running during the early stages of the home straight.

PALMER – Raced three wide from the 800m. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight before then shifting out over the concluding stages.

FAVULOUS FLOYD – Overraced in the middle stages. Had to be steadied when tightened for room near the 200m.

PIPPOS – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 2: COASTLINE BMW MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

As apprentice S. Fawke was ill, apprentice B. Ainsworth was substituted as the rider of STRIKING WARRIOR.

The start of this race was delayed when MJOLNIR, which kicked out behind the barriers, making contact with the fence, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 1.22 pm on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MJOLNIR be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

5 cents in the dollar for the Win #13
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #13
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #12

ARRABIATO – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with other runners. Held up rounding the home turn and had to be steadied approaching the 400m.

LEAP OF LEGEND – Hampered and had to be steadied shortly after the start. Raced wide from the 800m.

ONEMORE TWIST – Raced wide throughout.

STRIKING WARRIOR – Raced wide without cover.

PLAN RED – Jumped away awkwardly and was then further hampered and had to be steadied shortly after the start.

WISHIPOUR – Weakened badly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short-striding in front.

BEXSTAR – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that her mount was slow to begin, overraced in the early stages and then laid out in the home straight, causing her to be unable to test her mount.

OUR JAMAICA – Lost the off hind plate in running.

Race 3: XXXX CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1800M

LORD COCONUTS – Overraced in the middle stages.

BOLD AVENUE – Raced wide in the early stages.

SKYTASTIC – Slow to begin.

WIMPOLE STREET – Disappointed for a run near the 250m and had to be steadied and alter course to secure clear running.

SUBSOLAR – Slow to begin.


Race 4: HOT91.1 LADIES OAKS DAY MAY 27 F&M CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M

LAUGH A LITTLE – Lost the off hind plate in running.

BOOMI DAZZLER – Raced three wide without cover.

CATENACCIO – Improved onto heels near the 600m and had to be steadied. Had to be steadied near the 150m when improving to the inside of LAUGH A LITTLE, which shifted in under pressure, and then had to shift back to the outside of that runner to secure clear running. Apprentice C. Dell, the rider of LAUGH A LITTLE, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear.

MADAME DE BAN – Raced three wide. Laid in in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 5: YALUMBA C,G&E CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M

KARIEGA – Raced wide throughout.

MURDER OF CROWS – Slow to begin.

SILIQUA – Lost the near fore plate in running.

THE WACO KID – B. Pengelly was asked to comment on the horse’s performance. He indicated that after travelling well, the horse did not let down as he had anticipated. He added that the horse’s breathing was somewhat unusual during the event and he was disappointed with the way in which the horse found the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Lockwood advised that in light of jockey Pengelly’s comments he would add a tongue tie to the horse’s gear and he was of the view that a step up in distance would be beneficial for the horse.

YABL DABL DOYA – Had to be steadied from heels when the pace slackened passing the 800m and continued to overrace until the 600m.

OUR ROCK RILEY – Raced three wide without cover.

IRISH CONSTABULARY – Held up rounding the home turn and was obliged to alter course near the 300m to secure clear running.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a GOOD 4.

Race 6: PARKLANDS TAVERN QTIS 3YO BM70 H’CAP – 1600M

TYPING – Raced wide from the 800m.

BACKSTREET LOVER – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

LADY NO MORE – Slow to begin.

MISHANI PHOENIX – Slow to begin. M. Cahill indicated that from the wide barrier he was obliged to take up a position further back in the field than he would have liked in order to secure a position closer to the fence, and despite being ridden further back I n the field he felt the horse finished the race off well and was doing its best work over the concluding stages.

RUM ‘N’ SONG – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

TARBERT – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Baker was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to it being permitted to race again.

Race 7: BUNDABERG RUM QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1400M

SACRED ELIXIR – Tightened for room near the 700m and had to be steadied.

UNCANNY REASON – Bumped heavily near the 800m, forced wider and raced wide throughout the event.

KUBIS – Forced wider on the track near the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards.

DOUMBEK – Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened near the 800m and shifted out to avoid heels, making heavy contact with another runner, and whilst continuing to race greenly near the 700m, shifted in, tightening the running of other runners. A warning was placed on the horse’s racing manners.

HALFETI – Tightened for room near the 700m and clipped the heels of WITH A PROMISE.

BENFICA PRINCESS – Tightened for room near the 300m when TWO SHOES (B. Pengelly) was directed outwards by its rider to secure clear running, and as a result had to be checked and shifted out, making heavy contact with GUINIGI PRINCE, which in turn made heavy contact with UNCANNY REASON, both of which were inconvenienced. B. Pengelly pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and his licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 15 May and expire at midnight on Thursday 26 May 2016.

DANGEROUS DESIRE – Laid out rounding the home turn.

GUINIGI PRINCE – Had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 700m and shifted out, forcing another runner wider on the track.

IRISH VICE – Jockey M. Cahill returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight. After taking evidence from jockey Cahill, stewards accepted the explanation tendered and took no further action.

Race 8: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BM70 H’CAP – 1400M

DOUGHTY – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

COLOUR CHARGE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight whilst weakening.

THREE BEERS PLEASE – Slow to begin.

STONECAST – Overraced in the middle stages and had to be steadied from heels.

SANKARA SPIRIT – After being held up rounding the home turn, shifted out in an attempt to improve and made contact with ROGALI on a number of occasions. Obliged to alter course near the 200m to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with another runner.

OLD SMOKEY – Held up during the early stages of the home straight.

RED CLAW – Raced wide throughout.

TACTICIAN – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 200m.

ROGALI – Bumped on a number of occasions after rounding the home turn. Inconvenienced by another runner near the 200m.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Overraced when the pace slackened near the 900m, then shifted wider and raced wide from that point onwards. Lost the near fore plate in running.
