GENERAL

As B. Stewart was to be overweight in Races 2 and 3, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. B. Stewart was fined $100 for each infringement.

Race 1: BASSETT BARKS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1600M

PRIMUS INVICTUS – Raced wide throughout.

PUISSANCE DECHEVAL – Forced wider over the concluding stages. R. McMahon was fined $100 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

REDSERA – Had to be steadied from the heels of a runner which lost ground near the 1400m. Improved on to heels when the pace slackened near the 900m, was steadied and shifted wider for a short distance.

CAVALIER KID – Made contact with another runner on jumping away. Shifted out, lost ground and overraced passing the 1400m when restrained from the heels of MANDAROSSO (B. Panya), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice B. Panya was issued with a reprimand and advised to provide greater clearance to her fellow riders in future. Became unbalanced after being bumped by another runner near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the near hind leg.

SKI KITZBUHEL – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

SPANISH GARDEN – Made contact with another runner on jumping away. Shifted in across the heels of CAVALIER KID near the 1400m and had to be checked, losing ground. When shifting out to secure clear running near the 400m, made heavy contact with another runner on a number of occasions and became unbalanced.

TE KULA KAHA – Bumped at the start, became awkward and lost ground.

Race 2: LAUDER AND SONS BUILDERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BELL CHOISIR – Slow to begin.

MYSTERIUM – Steadied when the pace slackened leaving the 1000m.

AMERICAN DIVA – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, L. Rolls indicated that he anticipated being back in the field, however on a number of occasions in the middle stages when attempting to improve to the inside of another runner, the horse was reluctant to do so. He added that he was obliged to pressure the horse from the 600m and the horse was again reluctant to improve into a tight run in the home straight. He felt that a step up in distance to 1400m would allow the horse to travel comfortably in a more prominent position.

COONOWRIN RUBY –Raced wide after being steadied from heels near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

EXCITED DREAM – Raced three wide without cover.

PLAIN TRUTH – Lost the off fore plate in running.

SABA LASS – Had some difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 3: RED BUILDING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

DUKE OF MOOLOO was a late scratching at 1.46 pm on veterinary advice that the horse had sustained an injury in its race day stall. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DUKE OF MOOLOO be refunded, with the following deductions to apply so successful wagers, with SP bets not subject to the deductions:

4 cents in the dollar for the Win #3
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #11
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5

MASTER DENRHO – Raced wide without cover.

MIGHTY TAX – N. Thomas reported that his mount jumped away awkwardly and laid in in the home straight.

THE PERPETRATOR – Stewards questioned apprentice S. Lacy regarding her vigour from a point near the 500m until approaching the 300m. She indicated that she slapped the horse down the shoulder approaching that point and it became awkward and shifted out. She then balanced the horse again and was concerned that given the horse was having its first start, it may make the turn awkwardly and she was reluctant to apply full pressure at that point. After viewing the films, stewards advised Ms Lacy that in similar circumstances she would be expected to apply full vigour as the horse had become more tractable at that point, however given her limited experience, stewards took no further action.

SENORITA ROSITA – Overraced when attempting to secure cover during the early stages.

D’LEEAJET – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

LIBELULA – J. Byrne dropped his whip approaching the 100m.

Race 4: DESIGNER DECKS, RESTORATIONS AND PATIOS OPEN H’CAP – 1000M

SALUTER – Steadied and shifted out near the 700m to avoid the heels of SPIRIT OF THE DAWN (T. Brooker). Ms Brooker was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

TIME TO PLUNDER – Slow to begin. Lost the off hind plate in running.

TRALFAZ – Raced wide throughout.

SIMPLY MING – Forced wider near the 700m and raced wide without cover from that point. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that it had not been her intention to take up a forward position, however the horse being fresh today began well and settled comfortably without being pressured.

Race 5: BURNS BUILDERS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M

MEET GEORGE JETSON – Raced wide without cover.

BOYS FROM THE BUSH – Raced wide without cover.

UNIQUE PEARL – Slow to begin.

Race 6: SHINE FOR THOMAS FOUNDATION CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M

HENRYVONHUFEISEN – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages resulting in tightening to ON DEMAND, which had to be steadied whilst weakening. Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount.

KINGTANTES – Steadied from heels near the 800m.

COLD BLOODED – Slow to begin.

Race 7: DRUMMOND GOLF CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M

BADRAAN – Bumped by another runner and forced wider near the 400m. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance and must compete in an official barrier trial prior to its next start.

SANGUINE RED – Slow to begin. J. Lloyd reported that his mount laid in under pressure in the home straight.

GAME OF FAME – Shifted out to secure clear running near the 400m, bumped another runner and became unbalanced for a short distance.

ST REMY – Held up rounding the home turn and then obliged to steady when placed in restricted room near the 300m.

KIRSTEN COVE – Raced wide without cover.

WHYNOTROC – Overraced badly in the early and middle stages. Held up during the early stages of the home straight.

BLOOMIN’ ELUSIVE – Finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Thomas indicated that he would monitor the horse’s post-race recovery and the give consideration to its immediate racing future. Stewards advised Mr Thomas that should he continue with the horse’s current preparation, consideration may be given to the horse being restricted to non-TAB venues.
