As Jockey J Morris was injured and K. Wilson- Taylor was unable to ride at today’s meeting, stewards permitted rider changes as per the stewards’ race day summary.

Race 1: INTERNATIONAL/AKZONOBEL Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1000 metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider a protest lodged by Nathan Thomas, rider of 2nd placegetter, VON SAGA, against COSSIE being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 300m. After considering all the evidence Stewards found that approaching the 300m VON SAGA attempted to improve into a run between COSSIE and KNOCKKNEE and when doing so was obliged to shift wider after COSSIE laid out under pressure. Bearing in mind where the interference took place and the beaten margin, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had such incident not occurred VON SAGA would have finished in advance of COSSIE and, therefore, the protest was dismissed.

Cossie – Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight. Apprentice J Graham was advised to stop riding and straighten in similar circumstances.

Knockknee – Overraced for a number of strides passing the 800m when racing in restricted room between TALLAHASSEE LASSIE and COSSIE.

Passing the 700m had to be checked to avoid the heels of HARD ROCK GIRL who was carried in by ELIXIR which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Marshall stated that he intended to settle midfield in today’s event but after being trapped wide in the early stages and with his mount racing fierce, he elected to push forward and lead.
