QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB SUNDAY 14 AUGUST 2022 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – SOFT (5)RAIL – +2M 1200M - 400M, TRUE REMAINDEROFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J AdamsStewards – G Goold, T Hudson & C FederickClerk of Scales – J RobinsonJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr D LauSwab Attendants – J Pedofsky & J CromptonStarter – R Hanson GENERAL As Nathan Day was unable to attend the meeting due to transport difficulties, replacements were made as per raceday summary. Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting- Race 6 – SIMON SAYS – L Tarrant - +1kg Race 1: GOODMAN FIELDER FOODSERVICE PARTNER QTIS 3YO BM62 HCP – 1000M MR ENCORE – Overraced in the early stages. Shifted out abruptly approaching the winning post. TOW THE LINE – Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure near the 100m. WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Overraced for the majority of the event and dipped near the 500m when racing keenly. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 100m when TOW THE LINE shifted out under pressure. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor, rider of TOW THE LINE, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 2: DONSKI CLASS 3 HCP – 1000M ARCHERY BUTTS - Shifted in on jumping. CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) - Bumped with I PROMISE YOU near the 700m. Laid in throughout the event. PAPERCLIP - Slow to begin and hampered shortly after. FRISCO’S IMAGE – Approaching the 800m had to be restrained off the heels off ROWDASH when the pace steadied. Awkwardly placed on heels upon entering the home straight. I PROMISE YOU - Near the 700m bumped with CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) and was placed in restricted room as a result. ROWDASH – When questioned regarding ROWDASH not leading in todays event, apprentice M Kennedy in the presence of senior jockey M Du Plessis, stated that her instructions were to attempt to settle with cover and not get into a speed battle in the early stages. She added after beginning well and passing the 800m, she restrained her mount in an attempt to obtain cover behind PAPERCLIP in an effort to ride to instructions, however after doing so, ROWDASH failed to travel. She further stated that upon straightening she was unable to take up a position on the crown of the track and felt that her mount travelled on unfavourable ground. Trainer M Kropp confirmed the instructions were to attempt to find cover and agreed with Kennedy’s assessment of the unfavourable ground being a factor in ROWDASH finishing its race off. Stewards advised apprentice Kennedy that in their opinion, she had erred in restraining her mount in the early stages after being able to obtain a leading position with a relatively slow early tempo. Stewards reminded Trainer M Kropp of his obligations under AR100 in that he must advised stewards of any potential change of tactics. Race 3: PRIESTLEYS GOURMET DELIGHTS MDN HCP – 1200M CANNY BE BETTER – Passing the 1000m was placed in restricted room and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SON OF MERCURY, which shifted in. Jockey G Cartwright, rider of SON OF MERCURY, was advised to exercise greater in similar circumstances. When questioned regarding the performance, J Orman reported that in his opinion, CANNY BE BETTER was disadvantaged having to travel through inferior ground in the straight. EXTORTIONIST – Passing the 200m raced in restricted room and approaching the 100m, was disappointed for a run and became awkwardly placed on the heels of EARSLTON. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey B Thornton could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When questioned, co-trainer M Hoysted stated that EXTORTIONIST had pleased in its work leading into both runs for the stable and has been disappointed with both efforts to date. He added that although he had some difficulty obtaining a clear run in the straight, he was expecting a more forward showing today from EXTORTIONIST and that the stable would now look at the addition of blinkers for the geldings’ next run. JUDAS – Near the 900m had to be restrained after improving onto heels. CHAIN OF FIRE – Raced wide throughout. CARRY ON DRAGON - Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. VALLEY OF ROSES – Raced wide throughout. EARLSTON – Overraced in the early stages when having to be restrained when the pace slackened. Laid in under pressure in the straight and had to be restrained off the heels of JUDAS passing the 100m. SPRESSI – Overraced in the early stages. Race 4: MCCAIN SURECRISP MDN HCP – 1200M SINFUL MOMENT – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms HURRICANE HALL – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B Thornton stated that HURRICANE HALL travelled well throughout however when asked for an effort, the gelding failed to respond to his urgings and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Haydon was reprimanded under AR165(3) for removing HURRICANE HALL off course prior to 30 minutes post race. CLASSIC BOOM – Jumped awkwardly and slow as a result. RABBIT STU – Forced wider near the 900m and raced wide from that point on. SPICCATO - Approaching the 900m shifted wider whilst. overracing and raced wide for the remainder of the event. I KNOW DAT – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced in restricted room upon entering the home straight. After the running of this race, jockey C Bayliss was examined by the club’s doctor and was stood down from his remaining engagements. Jockey C Bayliss was advised he would need to produce a medical prior to his next engagements. Stewards permitted changes as per raceday summary. Race 5: MASTERFOODS PROFESSIONAL MDN HCP – 1600M KOMATA – Hampered on jumping. When questioned regarding the perceived improved performance, trainer K Loy stated that KOMATA has been slowly nurtured into racing following injuries and was having only its fourth start as a seven-year-old. She added that the gelding pleased in its work leading up to today’s event and in her opinion KOMATA’s previous distances had not been suitable and with the addition of blinkers today she was expecting a forward showing. Stewards noted the comments. BONLOE (NZ) – Approaching the 1400m had to be restrained when racing in restricted room to the inside of CHOSEN DISTANCE. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer P Jenkins undertook to report back on the condition of BONLOE (NZ) if anything becomes apparent with the mare in the days subsequent. STAR OF ADELAIDE – Overraced and raced in restricted room in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey M Cahill stated that STAR OF ADELAIDE travelled well throughout the event, however when asked for an effort his mount failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. CARREFOUR – Jumped away awkwardly. RED JASPER – Jumped away awkwardly and slow as a result. Approaching the winning post raced in restricted room. EPAUVESCENT – Jumped away awkwardly shifting out. FRIDA’S TIME – Jockey J Taylor stated that his intentions weren’t to lead, however after beginning well and when his mount commenced to overrace, he let the mare stride forward in an attempt to settle. MA DUSHKA – Slow to begin. Race 6: PFD FOODSERVICES BM65 HCP – 1800M ZAWADI (NZ) – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the home straight placing its rider apprentice M Kennedy at a severe disadvantage. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice M Kennedy stated the mount travelled well, however when placed under pressure, ZAWADI (NZ) laid in and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor-post race recovery. SIMON SAYS – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and shifted in to improve into clear running. EARN OUT – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room passing the 200m. Race 7: SAPUTO FOODSERVICE BM65 HCP – 1200M BEAUX REUMBLE - Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. YOU’LL BE MIST – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. ABOVE THE LOT– Restrained from the wide barrier to take up a position closer to the rail. Race 8: PFD SEAFOOD CLASS 1 HCP – 1400M PENTITO – Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post. MISTA OMEGA - Bounded on jumping and was slow as a result. STARZAM – Jumped awkwardly. Jockey J Orman stated that after beginning only fairly and being trapped wide in the early stages pushed forward and took up a leading position. He added that when placed under pressure approaching the 600m, his mount commenced to weaken and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. MOVEITMOVEIT – Bumped on jumping with SASANQUAS. Near the 900m had to be restrained and steadied for a number of strides when his mount improved into restricted room between MILAGRO and PENTITO. Approaching the winning post had to be restrained when PENTITO shifted out under pressure. LION’S TOOTH – Overraced in the early stages. COURTINGROCK – Jumped awkwardly. Near the 800m had to be restrained when placed in restricted room between the inside of MOVEITMOVEIT. SASANQUAS – Bumped on jumping with MOVEITMOVEIT.
