Breed Race 1: JACK DANIEL'S QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1000 metres CAILIN ALAINN – Raced wide throughout ELBA – Raced greenly in the early and middle stages. ENCRYPTED ELEGANCE – As jockey B. Thornton was not riding due to illness, he was replaced by jockey B. Thompson. LIGHTSCAMERAACTION – Began awkwardly. Stable representative indicated that the filly will now be spelled. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. SUPER DAISY – Began awkwardly. VIENNA ROSE – Slow to begin. WHISKEY DANCER – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance of WHISKEY DANCER, apprentice C. Waddell advised that she had been instructed to ride forward, however after beginning awkwardly and pressuring the filly in the early stages, the filly did not have sufficient speed and she elected to take hold and obtain cover in the second half of the field. Apprentice Waddell added that the filly travelled well in the middle stages, however, she did not quicken as anticipated when asked to improve near the 400m. Race 2: LANDSBOROUGH HOTEL QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1000 metres BELLO D'ORO – Whilst hanging out badly made heavy contact with THE MERCHANT on a number of occasions from the 900m until approaching the 500m. Jockey S. Cormack reported that his mount hung out throughout. Trainer Ms. M. Taylor was advised that BELLO D’ORO must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. COLTMAN – Began awkwardly. LITTLE SHOW – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice T. Fenlon reported that the gelding raced very greenly throughout. STAR OF ROBIGLEN – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Bayliss lost his whip near the 100m. On return to scale jockey Bayliss reported that gelding hung out on the home turn and laid in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer’s representative for the L. Freedman stable was advised that a warning would be placed on STAR OF ROBIGLEN’s racing manners. THE MERCHANT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. WHAT A WEEKEND – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Maloney stated that after beginning well, he elected to steady from the wide barrier to take up a trailing position, however the gelding showed no early pace and he was obliged to apply pressure for the first 200m. He indicated that WHAT A WEEKEND travelled well from the 600m and as the gelding was doing its best work over the concluding stages, it would appreciate a step up in distance. Race 3: PFD FOODSERVICES Maiden Plate 2200 metres BURN THE BOATS – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer L. Richardson stated that it is his likely intention to retire the gelding. However, Mr Richardson was advised that if the gelding were to race again, he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to BURN THE BOATS racing again. GLEN MASSEY (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages. LET'S PROSPER – Began awkwardly. Forced wider at the 1200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities other than a cough. Trainer J. Laing was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding for poor performance. MANZIKERT – Began awkwardly. Laid in throughout and weakened badly from the 700m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer D. Murphy advised Stewards the gelding’s immediate racing future. Nonetheless, Ms Murphy was advised that MANZIKERT must barrier trial prior to racing again. THE KHAN (NZ) – As jockey B. Thornton was not riding due to illness, he was replaced by jockey S. Collett. On return to scale, the gelding was found to have bled from both nostrils. Stewards advised trainer M. Wilson that as this was the first occasion that this had occurred, under the provisions of AR79(4), THE KHAN would be suspended from racing for three months and must undergo a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again. FLYING PHAROAH – Held up for clear running in the home straight. HEROIC INSTINCT – Tightened for room near the 1700m when racing to the inside of FLYING PHAROAH which was taken in by GLEN MASSEY. Jockey L. Tarrant was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Race 4: COTTON TREE MEATS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres GRAND ACADEMY – Steadied from heels at the 800m. PANGAEA – When racing to the inside of other runners near the 800m, became awkward and lost ground. Stewards advised trainer Mr A. Campton that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. STAR OF PERU – Slow to begin. Weakened badly in the home straight and finished a distant last. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Stewards advised trainer Mr R. Heathcote that the gelding will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. IVANOV – Lost the off hind plate in running. LOVE TONIGHT – Inconvenienced and forced wider at the 800m when PANGAEA shifted out. MA'S EPIC – Raced wide throughout. BANANA SLIDE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Checked from the heels of PANGAEA which lost ground at the 800m. Obliged to alter course approaching the 200m in order to secure clear running. BRIDGET WENLOCK – Declared a late scratching at 3.03pm when the filly cast a plate behind the barriers and was found to be lame in the near fore. Stewards declared that all bets placed on BRIDGET WENLOCK be refunded with the following deductions to apply:1st BANANA SLIDE 1c win, 1c place2nd PANGAEA 1c place3rd IVANOV 2c place WHIZ BY – As jockey L. Tarrant was stood down by the club doctor, he was replaced by J. Bayliss. Shifted a plate during the preliminary and required farrier attention behind the barriers. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and was obliged to race in restricted room over the concluding stages. Race 5: COUNTRY TO COAST BUILDING Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres MENAZZI – Raced wide throughout. LAMBDOMA ENERGY – Over raced when the pace slackened approaching the 800m. MIO SORRENTO – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. SACCA – Jockey L. Tarrant replaced by D. Thornton. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room whilst weakening near the 200m. Jockey D. Thornton, when asked to comment on the performance, indicated that after being caught wide, the gelding was under pressure when rounding the home turn and weakened in the home straight. Trainer N. McCall advised she would inform Stewards of any findings in the coming days that may explain the performance. LEGEND RULES – Significantly slow to begin. Approaching the 200m, obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of RUINART and as result had to be steadied. Jockey M. Powell, rider of RUINART, was reprimanded under the provisions for AR 131(a) and was advised to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Stewards advised trainer L. White that as this was the first occasion this had occurred, under the provisions of AR79(4), LEGEND RULES would be suspended from racing for three months and must undergo a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again. DRAMMATICA – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until approaching the 250m before shifting inwards to obtain clear running. Race 6: LANDSBOROUGH HOTEL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres GENTLE PRINCE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. REFORMIST – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1300m and obliged to steady. Jockey J. Adams reported that he dropped his whip at the 100m. AGENT OF MAYHEM – Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority of the event. THE CARPENTER – Jockey L. Tarrant was replaced by jockey M. Du Plessis. CALCAREOUS – Very slow to begin. DUCHESS ROTHESAY – Began awkwardly. CAIRDEAS – Slow to begin. Race 7: LIQUOR LEGENDS Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres THE ROCKWELL SCALE – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Jockey J. Orman reported at scale that he would have preferred to settle further forward however after being bumped at the start, he was obliged to settle in a midfield position. BRIGHT DAISY – Slow to begin, then bumped heavily and lost ground. Improved onto heels near the 600m, was steadied and shifted out bumping with DIVENIRE. Momentarily steadied when placed in restricted room near the 200m. CATWALK CRIMINAL – Had a tendency to lay out under pressure from the 400m, shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages, affecting the manner in which the filly was tested over the concluding stages. MAROON MAGIC – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. GERTANIE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that he was instructed to ride further back, however when the mare began well, he allowed GERTANIE to stride forward. ME AS I AM – Jockey L. Tarrant was replaced by jockey S. Collett. Began awkwardly and bumped with BRIGHT DAISY. Steadied from the heels of SUPER DAISY near the 600m and again at the 500m. DIVENIRE – Bumped and forced wider near the 600m.
