Race 1: M J Cleaners/Stanthorpe Painting Services Maiden Plate 1000m

As apprentice J. Greacen was unable to claim any of her allowance on I’M IMPULSIVE she was replaced by jockey D. McIntosh. After considering all of the evidence, stewards reprimanded J. Greacen.

On return to scale, J. Hoopert, rider of the second placegetter, REAL DYNAMITE, lodged a protest against OH HAPPY DAYS (B. Powell) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 700m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards' patrol film, it was established that near the 700m, REAL DYNAMITE was momentarily steadied when racing between OH HAPPY DAYS and BOWLED OVER (S. Apthorpe) which laid out. As stewards could not attribute the incident to OH HAPPY DAYS stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the Judges placing’s.

REAL DYNAMITE – Steadied near the 700m and forced wider on the track.

FLAMINGO ROSE – Rider dropped the whip approaching the 100m.

FOLLOW THE BEAT – Raced greenly in the early stages and lost ground near the 700m.

OH HAPPY DAYS – When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer K. Monckton stated the mare had trialled well leading into the recent disappointing performance at Toowoomba. She added that on that occasion the horse had not handled the prevailing track conditions and in her opinion had improved on today’s firmer track.

SMALL CHANGE – Began awkwardly and hung out rounding the turn at the 700m.

Race 2: K & A Building QTIS Class 2 Handicap 1000m

GOLD PAN – Apprentice B. Ainsworth could not offer any explanation for the performance only to add that the mare’s action in front felt awkward in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

SOLO SOPRANO – Laid out from the 500m.

TURBO TEDDY – Raced wide throughout. Steadied from heels of DARLING BE GOOD which shifted away from SOLO SOPRANO which laid out near the 200m. Laid in near the 100m and was steadied from heels.

COGNAC PRINCE – Knuckled at the start and a short distance later was tightened for room.

BACKSTREET JACK – Commenced to lose ground from the 900m and was then steadied near the 800m when GOLD PAN laid in despite the efforts of the rider.

Race 3: Country Club Hotel/Liquor Legends Benchmark 55 Handicap 1200m

THOMAS’S TRAIN – Began awkwardly.

RIP RIP WOODCHIP – Laid in under pressure over the final 150m.

LADY PRIM – Restrained when improving onto heels approaching the 800m.

Race 4: Central Motors Holden Stanthorpe Cup Open Handicap 1200m

STORM HEAD – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted, apprentice M. Kai stated his instructions were ride forward and obtain cover. He added that after his mount began well from the wide barrier, runners to his inside improved quickly and as a result he was forced to race wide throughout. Trainer S. McCormack confirmed the instructions. Stewards in considering the matter advised apprentice Kai that he had erred in not making a greater effort to restrain his mount in the early stages in an attempt to get his mount to settle and obtain cover behind ROBERT’S COMMAND, however bearing in mind that M. Kai had only just returned to riding from an extended lay off, stewards took no further action other than to bring his riding to the attention of the Racing Queensland Training Department.

BLOODED – When questioned regarding her mount racing in an extremely wide position in the early stages, apprentice J. Greacen stated that her instructions were to obtain cover behind the leaders. She added that her mount began to race keenly from shortly after the start and despite her efforts the horse refused to come back underneath her and raced wide until leaving the 700m where she was eventually able to obtain cover. Stewards accepted the explanation.

TRAGEDY – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

PIPERS POINT - Jockey D. McIntosh was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

ROBERT’S COMMAND – Steadied near the 500m when STORM AHEAD shifted in. Rider M. Obrien stated that she rode forward from the barriers in accordance with her instructions. She added that she was unable to obtain the lead when runners to her inside improved and as a result was forced to race wide for the majority of the race.

BRONCO - When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted and overall performance, apprentice B. Ainsworth stated that her instructions were to lead if possible, however after her mount was slow to begin, she was forced to pressure her mount adding that her mount responded to her riding and obtained the lead near the 1000m. She added that her mount travelled well until entering the home straight before weakening and felt that the horse had failed to run out the 1200m of today’s race. Trainer M. Palmer confirmed the instructions and felt the horse had raced keenly and failed to run out the distance of the race. Stewards advised B. Ainsworth that she should have made a greater effort to settle her mount between the 1000m and the 800m, however bearing in mind her relative inexperience advised that they would bring her ride to the attention of the Racing Queensland Training Department.

Race 5: Maydan Pastoral Company/Stanthorpe RSL Class 3 Plate 1400m

GIRLS ON THE AVENUE – Slow to begin. Made the home turn wide.

DHARAVI – Trainer L. Morrison was reprimanded for failing to engage F. Jervis as the rider by the prescribed time. Slow to begin.
