SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Innisfail Turf Club, 7th January 2017

Race 2: Costa Group QTIS Class 2 Handicap 900 metres.

Stewards today concluded an inquiry from Innisfail Turf Club on Saturday 7th January 2017 into the reason SNITZEL ROSE (J. Felix) fell, dislodging its rider. After hearing evidence from Jockey J. Felix,  the rider of SNITZEL ROSE, and placing on record the initial evidence from Riders B. Thomson (OUR RECIPE) and G. Kliese, (ORCHARD) and viewing the official race film, it was established that near the 200 metres, whilst being ridden along, ORCHARD shifted in, dictating the line of OUR RECIPE, which became unbalanced and shifted in to the rightful running line of SNITZEL ROSE, resulting in that horse clipping the heels of OUR RECIPE and falling, dislodging rider J. Felix.

Jockey G. Kliese pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a). After taking into account Jockey Kliese’s forthright evidence throughout the inquiry and his exemplary record over recent years stewards suspended his licence to ride in races for a period of 3 calendar weeks, to commence at midnight on 27th January 2017 up to and including 17th February 2017. Jockey Kliese was reminded of his rights of review in relation to this charge.
