GENERAL

Racing Queensland Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reasons for Jockey S Bogenhuber (SHUDA KNOWN BETTER) and Apprentice A Fancourt (YEEZY) being dislodged from their respective mounts near the 500m in Race 3- QTIS 2-y-o Plate 1050m at Toowoomba on 31 December 2015.

Initial evidence was taken on the day from all riders who rode in the event with the exception of Ms. Bogenhuber and Ms. Fancourt who were both transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Today evidence was taken from Ms. Bogenhuber and Ms. Fancourt.

After giving consideration to the evidence tendered on both hearing days, and after viewing the patrol footage, stewards found that near the 500m SHUDA KNOWN BETTER improved onto the heels of JACARANDA KING (J Morris) clipped the heels of that runner and fell. YEEZY which was following made heavy contact with the fallen horse, almost fell dislodging Ms Fancourt.

As stewards were satisfied that rider error was not a contributing factor in the fall, the matter was deemed a racing incident and no action was taken.

From 23 May 2016

Racing Queensland Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reasons for apprentice H. English being dislodged from KID CRUIZE near the 900m in Race 4, the Hamblin Builders Class 2 Handicap 1300m at Toowoomba on Saturday, 21 May 2016.

Initial evidence was taken on the day from jockeys S. Bogenhuber (TRIPLE JEOPARDY), J. Missen (HASHTAG YOLO) and Apprentice L. Tilley (BLUE STAR). The matter was adjourned as Apprentice English was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Today evidence was taken from Apprentice English, Mr G Richardson, the Master of Apprentice English, and further evidence was taken from Apprentice Tilley.

Stewards established from the evidence provided and the video footage available that near the 900m, KID CRUIZE, when racing keenly and when awkwardly placed at the heels of BLUE STAR, clipped the heels of that runner, blundered dislodging Ms English. Whilst it was noted that there was a very minor shift outwards by BLUE STAR at the point of the incident, Stewards did not feel that this shift was significant enough to attribute any blame to Apprentice Tilley and therefore the matter was deemed a racing incident.

Race 1: Daniel Say Tiling Benchmark 70 H'cap – 870m

VORTUKA – As S. Lacy was unable to fulfil her engagement on this horse due to riding at another venue, M. Savva was substituted as the rider of the horse. Checked from heels near the 150m.

OL’ BROWN EYES – Raced wide throughout.

LONHTIME – Laid out rounding the home turn.

HEAVENLY GLASS – After passing the 400m was held up for clear running and unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of other runners.

BLUE DESERT MOON – Stewards questioned jockey S. Bogenhuber in relation to the performance of the filly. She stated that the filly began reasonably and after doing some work was able to obtain the leading position. Jockey Bogenhuber added that her mount travelled strongly throughout the event, and coming to the home turn she was of the view that the horse was travelling well enough to be competitive over the concluding stages, however when challenged by SEQ THE STAR failed to respond to her riding and commenced to lay in and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Sears again expressed disappointment with the filly’s performance as it had continued to work well in preparation for tonight’s event. Mr Sears added that in light of the performance tonight the filly will be spelled immediately. On this assurance no action was taken against the horse. A post race veterinary examination of the horse failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

SOCIETY QUEEN – Tightened for room near the 150m and blundered when BLUE DESERT MOON laid in despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 2: Homestyle Baker Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1200m

UNIQUE FUSE – Bumped at the start. After being tightened for room shortly after the start, then failed to muster speed and raced a considerable distance behind the second-last horse despite the efforts of its rider to improve.

HUNCHA DUNCHA – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover.

BRAVE DAZZLER – On return to scale, jockey K. Yoshida advised that the gelding settled at the tail of the field as per its customary racing pattern, however was not suited by the fast early tempo and did not travel as comfortably as that of its most recent start as a consequence. He added that the horse improved into the race for a short distance passing the 400m, however raced one paced in the home straight. Jockey Yoshida further stated that, in his opinion, the horse would be better suited in races over further distance than that of tonight’s event.

Race 3: Just Cuts Grand Central Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

SO YOU DRINK – After becoming fractious in the tie-up stalls was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to entering the enclosure and was passed fit to start.

BRAZEN JAKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

KID CRUIZE – Tightened for room at the start.

PROUD VAL – Tightened for room at the start when GREAT PATIENCE shifted in. On return to scale jockey N. Evans reported that his mount slipped behind on jumping away and over the concluding stages felt awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be stepping short behind however was not lame. Trainer K. Waller advised that he will monitor the horse’s post race recovery and report back to stewards any abnormalities. Nevertheless Mr K. Waller was advised he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate for the horse prior to its next race start.

TEEMOLTON – Raced wide in the early stages.

FRISCO JOE – Raced wide from the 700m.

BEAUXBATON – Held up and unable to improve from the 500m until near the 300m.

Race 4: Warriego Waters Class 1 H'cap – 1625m

ENTER SANDMAN – Slow to begin. Raced very ungenerously in the middle stages with its head in the air. Laid in for the majority of the event.

REMISSIO – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. On return to scale J. Missen advised that the gelding never travelled comfortably at any stage during the event and when placed under pressure to improve failed to respond to her riding and, in his opinion, was disappointing.

COURT EXPRESS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hung in in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages. Steadied to avoid heels passing the 1400m. Jockey S. Bogenhuber reported that her mount laid in in the early stages and again after being placed under pressure in the home straight.

ITTY GITTY – Hampered at the start. Overraced in the early stages.

AIMING HIGH – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

MARLAHN – Had to be steadied near the 1400m to avoid the heels of AIMING HIGH, which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey S. Apthorpe, rider of AIMING HIGH, was reprimanded.

CALL ME RINGO – After being caught wide in the early stages, improved forward and obtained a position outside the leader near the 800m. Stewards questioned apprentice L. Attard in relation to the tactics adopted from the 700m. Apprentice Attard advised that after being caught wide in the early stages, and as a result of his mount overracing, he allowed the horse to stride forward and as a result obtained the position outside the leader. He added that in previous races it appeared the horse possessed a short sprint and therefore he elected to increase the tempo from the 700m in an endeavour to obtain a winning break on the remainder of the field. He went on to say that the gelding commenced to weaken from the 500m and failed to run on in the straight. Stewards advised apprentice Attard that, in their opinion, given the work the horse had to do in the early stages it would have been more advantageous to wait longer before placing his mount under pressure, however as stewards did not feel that apprentice Attard’s riding of the horse fell below the required standard therefore took the matter no further.

AHA I SEE – Raced wide in the early stages.

Race 5: Brian’s Mowing Toowoomba QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1050m

NORTHERN REVENGE – Jumped away awkwardly.

PACIFIC PUZZLE – Jumped away awkwardly.

CAPTAIN’S SON – On return to scale jockey S. Bogenhuber advised she was instructed to obtain a forward position from the wide barrier. She added that as a result of these instructions she rode her mount vigorously from the barriers, however when a number of runners to her inside showed speed, this resulted in her racing very wide without cover for the duration of the event.

Race 6: Peak Roofs Toowoomba Maiden H'cap – 1300m

CHATARA – Bumped heavily at the start. Raced wide throughout.

CASPERCCINO – Bumped heavily at the start.

MISS ARKWRIGHT – Bumped heavily at the start. Raced wide throughout.
