LONGREACH RACE 6 - CCC QUAL/CUP OPEN QUALITY HCP – 26th September 2020 SHIRANDA – Trainer J Manzelmann reported that SHIRANDA had pulled up well since it’s disappointing effort at Longreach. He added that the tactics may not have suited SHIRANDA on the day and would now look to take a sit at its next start. GENERAL Due to transport difficulties, jockey N Day was unable to fulfill his engagements. Replacements were made as per raceday summary. Race 1: ST PETER'S CAULFIELD CUP SAT 17 OCT 2020 QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1100 metres Natural Emperor – When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice E Smith stated her mount travelled well in the early and middle stages but when asked for an effort in the straight, her mount failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing in its finishing effort. She added that in her opinion, NATURAL EMPEROR failed to handle the firm track conditions. Russian Weapon – Jumped awkwardly contacting the inside barrier partition. He's A Wild One – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey A Sewell stated that HE’S A WILD ONE overraced in the early stages of the event and failed to handle the step up in distance. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed minor abrasions to the offside hock. Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards and Jockey R Wiggins, rider of RUSSIAN WEAPON, to view the photo finish image. After reviewing the image, Stewards, Jockey Wiggins and the judge were all of the opinion that the incorrect numbers had been semaphored, placing RUSSIAN WEAPON third. Stewards were satisfied that the judge had made an error in the determination of the finishing order of the race and acting under AR214(4)(b) amended the placings prior to the declaration of correct weight to; 1st - #3 – POETIC FINAL SAY2nd -#2 – RUSSIAN WEAPON3rd- #5 - SILVER LUCY4th- #1 – NATURAL EMPEROR The amended numbers were semaphored by the judge and correct weight was declared. Race 2: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1300 metres Hezhome – Overraced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Flying Crackerjak – Slow to begin. Gypsy Biker – Approaching the 100m, was held up for clear running and was obliged to shift off heels to improve into clear running. Rather Silky – Approaching the 800m, had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of HEZHOME. Race 3: RACE AT OUR PLACE - WELCOME BACK BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1400 metres Regal Reece – Laid in approaching the 100m and contacted the running rail. Doom – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Strawberry Blonde – Laid in under pressure in the straight. When questioned regarding the performance of STRAWBERRY BLONDE, jockey R Wiggins stated it was his intention to settle behind the lead in today’s event and after beginning well was able to take up a position behind DOOM in the early stages. However, he ended up settling further back after DOOM was restrained to allow REGAL REECE to cross. He further added his mount had a tendency to lay in throughout the event and on entering the home straight, elected to shift out around runners in an attempt to improve intro clear running. Stewards noted the explanation. Jockey R Wiggins was fined $300 for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 time more than permissible under the rule. Tom's Star – Approaching the 1000m, commenced to race keenly when jockey M McGillivray restrained the gelding when attempting to find cover. Overraced in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the nearside front leg. Trainer D Rideout was advised a vet certificate would be required prior to its next start. Race 4: CITY PRINTING WORKS OPEN Handicap 1400 metres Barachiel – Slow to begin. Inside the 200m, was unable to improve into a run between THE BAKER and CAVALERO which laid in, and as such had to shift wider onto the track to improve into clear running. Fastnet Flyer – Jockey J Stanley stated that his mount failed to handle the firm track conditions today and when asked for a finishing effort in the home straight, his mount felt awkward in its action and as such elected to not place his mount under pressure over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer G Bell was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to FASTNET FLYER starting again. The Baker – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. I Can I Will I Am – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer T Cook stated that I CAN I WILL I AM had the benefit of an easy lead in front and appreciated the firm surface today. He added that I CAN I WILL I AM will now be retired. Cavalero – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 5: CONDON FINANCIAL PTY LTD Maiden Handicap 1300 metres Presley Road – Jumped awkwardly causing jockey M McGillivray to lose use of his iron for several strides. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rock'n Blitz – Approaching the 900m, commenced to overrace and became awkwardly placed on the heels of WE WANT IT ALL. Zoomaratta – Jumped awkwardly shifting in bumping the hindquarters of THORBEN. Held up for clear running until the 150m. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Thorben – Bumped on the hindquarters by ZOOMARATTA shortly after jumping. Blame It On Paris – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Corkonian – Travelled wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Investible – Shifted out on jumping. Race 6: CQ MECHANICAL SOLUTIONS Maiden Plate 1000 metres Alsaurusfirst – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after contacting the barriers upon loading and was passed fit to start. When attempting to be reloaded into the gates, lost its composure and refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3.55pm.Upon declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on ALSAURUSFIRST be refunded with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 3.55pm: 28 cents in the dollar for all win bets #2 (DIP DYE)18 cents in the dollar for all place bets #2 (DIP DYE)17 cents in the dollar for all place bets #12 (KETCHIKAN GOLD)30 cents in the dollar for all place bets #10 (DR NEIGH) Do It For Viv – Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between FREEDOM ROCK and LADY CECILIA, who was carried out by LOLA MAE. Freedom Rock – Trainer K Miller advised that after the gelding’s poor performance, FREEDOM ROCK would now be retired. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Kids Inheritance – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the tie up stalls and was passed fit to start. Lady Cecilia– Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between LOLA MAE, which rolled out and DO IT FOR VIV who was carried in by FREEDOM ROCK. Sir Slew – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 7: ELDER'S FINANCIAL PLANNING CQ OPEN Handicap 1000 metres Bold Xavvi – Slow to begin. Raced keenly rounding the home turn and became awkwardly placed on the heels of FRUGAL. Casino Thoughts – Slow to begin. Approaching the 700m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels of SHIGERU MAHOGANY. Frugal – When questioned regarding the poor performance, jockey M McGillivray stated that his mount didn’t handle the conditions today and felt awkward in its action and elected not to pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its near fore plate in running and had abrasions on the hoof. Trainer R Vale was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to FRUGAL’s next start. Race 8: BOOK YOUR CHRISTMAS PARTY AT THE RACES Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres Dirty Diary – When questioned regarding the poor performance, jockey A Butler stated that DIRTY DIARY failed to handle the firm surface and as a result, elected not to pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Upon returning to the stable, Trainer T Cook reported that DIRTY DIARY had jarred up. Disco Mo – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Charles Seven – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Pirelli – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Highly Influential – Approaching the 200m, was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running after DISCO MO shifted in when insufficiently clear. App M Potgieter, rider of DISCO MO, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in the future. Tales Of Epsilon – Slow to begin. Miss Star – Slow to begin.
