Hung in in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, N. Day stated that he was instructed to make a sustained run in an effort to avoid being held up as in previous races the gelding has had difficulty improving when obliged to race at the rear of the field. Jockey Day added that when asked to improve passing the 800m the gelding improved quickly, however peaked on its run leaving the 300m and was

Upon leaving the enclosure the filly reared and fell over, in the process dislodging T. Marshall, who took a seemingly harmless fall. Stewards subsequently acceded to a request from trainer G. Baker to remove the tongue-tie as it appeared the filly was resenting this piece of gear. Public announcements were made to this effect. The filly then underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was cleared to start. Bumped by SAIBYE upon straightening and became unbalanced.
