When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages jockey D. Browne stated that after beginning fairly he attempted to position one off the fence by forcing SPUR LE JOUER closer to the rail, but when apprentice T. Brooker held her position one off he was then forced to race 3 wide. He further added that as the pace was only moderate in the early stages he elected to improve his position leaving the 800m and continued to race 3 wide, and, in his opinion, the gelding only finished the race off fairly.
