When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted after leaving the 800m, apprentice M. Murphy stated that when following THE AMATEUR he elected to shift outside that runner as he was of the belief that THE AMATEUR was making a respiratory noise and he did not wish to be held up behind it at that stage of the race. He added that his mount appreciates clear running over the final 600m.

Shifted in near the 1400m and then when attempting to relieve tightening to runners to the inside was prevented from doing so by AQUA VITE on the outside. Checked away from heels at the entrance to the straight when tiring. C. Brown advised that his mount was under pressure after leaving the 800m and never travelled well. Trainer T. Edmonds advised that it may be the intention to spell the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
