Had to be checked near the 500m when tightened for room between CAPTAIN DODGE and HI HARRY, which shifted out away from GOOD LUCK MALELA, which also shifted out. When asked to explain the performance, jockey A. Spinks advised that the filly never travelled comfortably and was under pressure from the 600m and proved disappointing today.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice L. Tarrant explained that when obliged to race wide in the early stages he allowed the horse to stride forward, which, in his opinion, did not suit his mount as he was of the view it is better ridden with cover. Trainer T. Hall agreed with these comments, and undertook to report back to stewards any abnormalities that may come to light which may explain today's performance. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which compounded badly in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
