Tightened for room when Rock The Pac laid in under pressure near the 700m. Forced wider on the track near the 400m. Apprentice J. Oliver, in the presence of Mr K. Kemp, was questioned regarding his whip action over the concluding stages when joined by Lever Lever, which shifted out under pressure. Stewards found that whilst apprentice Oliver had changed his whip action, they were not of the opinion that his action had changed to the extent that a breach of the rules had occurred.

Following the event, jockey J. Byrne reported that his mount overraced in the early stages and as a result he allowed the mare to stride forward near the 1800m. He added that his mount continued to overrace until Lever Lever went forward passing the 1200m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
