When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey J. Bayliss advised that the gelding travelled in a good position throughout, however when the pace of the race quickened it failed to respond to his riding as he had anticipated, and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. During a post-race veterinary examination, the gelding coughed on a number of occasions.
