Held up rounding the home turn and again between the 250m and 100m. Jockey R Fradd reported that it was his intention to take up a handy position however bearing in mind the strong early tempo he was content to allow the gelding to travel comfortably without being pressured which resulted in it settling further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey Fradd noted that the gelding had failed to finish the race off at its previous start when ridden along early to obtain a forward position.

Upon returning to scale, App. B Ainsworth reported that her intention was to obtain a position closer to the speed, however, the gelding was slow to muster speed in the early stages despite her efforts and as a consequence settled further back in the field than anticipated. App. Ainsworth noted that the gelding was back in distance today and subsequently raced dour. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted today, particularly if there was an opportunity to obtain a trailing position behind WALWA passing the 1400m, App. S Fawke stated that he had been specifically instructed to allow the gelding to roll forward. App. Fawke conceded that he should have restrained the gelding to obtain cover behind WALWA but was reluctant to do so given the instructions he had been issued.
