Questioned re: tactics - instructed to lead if slow tempo otherwise obtain cover. Over-raced early, elected to settle back off leader. Runner improved to inside and forced him wider near 800m. Then 3 wide so elected to restrain further to obtain cover one off. Noted it was first start over 1300m and was concerned if remained outside of leader would have resulted in strong tempo. Failed to make any ground on winner over final 300m. Foreman confirmed instructions, satisfied with ride after viewing footage. Rider advised erred in restraing passing the 800m. Vetted - no abnormalities
