Bumped approaching 200m. Stewards ques. Jockey S Bogenhuber re tactics whether there was an opportunity to take up position with cover behind CHAUVE DOG near 1400m. Ms Bogenhuber stated she considered taking up that position however, was mindful of her specific instructions to lead and therefore when caught wide early allowed horse to stride forward in an attempt to obtain the lead. Ms Bogenhuber noted she was only able to obtain a position outside the leader near 900m. Trainer P Butterworth confirmed instructions and noted similar tactics had been adopted at the geldings last start.

A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which compounded leaving the 500m revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Joice was of the opinion that the gelding may have choked down during the event. Mr Joice was advised that the gelding will be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Mr Joice indicated that he may experiment with the addition of a tongue tie.
