After leading for the majority of the event, commenced to weaken upon straightening and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Rider explained that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages however in his opinion failed to let down when placed under pressure due to the heavy track conditions. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to have a poor post-race recovery.

Slow to begin. After settling in a rearward position, the gelding failed to maintain contact with the main body of the field and at a point passing 600 metres rider desisted from pressuring his mount as he felt there may be something amiss with ROCKY NUGGET. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.
