Slow to begin. Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J. Lloyd stated that as per its normal pattern the gelding raced in a rearward position. He added he was instructed to improve into the race passing the 600m or 700m as the horse is one paced, however it failed to respond to his riding, and subsequently he advised connections the horse would be better suited to larger tracks over more distance than that of today's event. Stewards noted the comments.
