When questioned by Stewards regarding the improved performance, Trainer Mr. D. Groves explained that when the mare overraced two starts ago at Ipswich the rider had recommended the removal of the blinkers for its next start, which he did, however the horse did not perform well at Toowoomba on that occasion without that gear. Mr. Groves added that with the blinkers back on today, as well as the change of rider, he had not been overly surprised with the win which was consistent with the mare’s runs prior to its last start at Toowoomba. Stewards accepted the explanation.

As the mare had not raced in over 12 months, it was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which performed below market expectation, revealed that it was exhibiting a slow post-race recovery. Trainer B. Lockwood advised that as the mare had not had a start in over 400 days he was not overly disappointed in the performance, and said that the mare would benefit from this run. Stewards noted the explanation.
