Raced three wide throughout. Stewards questioned M. Crawford regarding the tactics he adopted. He stated that his instructions were to have the gelding race on the speed, which was its usual pattern. Examined behind the barriers by the veterinary surgeon, who reported that the gelding had blood in its mouth as a result of dislodging a tooth, and was passed fit to race. After being caught three wide in the early stages, the rider elected to ease and take cover near the 900m.
