When asked to comment about the tactics adopted, jockey M. McGillivray advised that it was always his intention to lead in the race, however after being ridden forward to lead from the wide barrier, his mount refused to settle after passing the 1100m and overraced for the majority. He added that, in his opinion, the combination of the extra pressure being applied in the early stages and the horse overracing may have contributed to its finishing effort today. Stewards noted the explanation.
