Raced 3 wide no cover. Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey against the winner, alleging interference over the final stages. On the evidence it was established that inside the final 30 metres the winner shifted out under riding and bumped the gelding carrying it wider. Bearing in mind the manner in which both horses ran to the finish, and the margin of a nose between them at the finish, stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred gelding would have finished ahead of the declared winner. Accordingly the protest was upheld and the placings amended.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice said that his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage. He stated that in his opinion the gelding would perform better over longer distances.
