Stewards questioned Jockey D. Evans in regard to the performance of the gelding. He said that after beginning well CHLORIDE was taken on for the lead and near the 500 metres commenced to yield ground and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Contacted by another runner at the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Jockey A. Coome stated that his mount failed to travel well throughout. Trainer R Vale reported that blood analysis revealed the gelding to be suffering an infection and a course of treatment was being administered. Mr Vale would further assess the gelding’s current preparation in light of this issue.
