Slow to begin. Steadied from heels nearing 800m. Inquiry re performance. J. Orman said he would have liked a more more genuine pace, but after being slow out tried to restrain to gain cover and cross closer to the rail, but the horse raced keenly near the 1000m and was obliged to race 3 wide, then after improving rounding the home turn behind Stonecast his mount started to lay in on straightening and had to pull the whip through to the off side and felt this allowed STONECAST to sprint quickly away. He said the horse finished the race off fairly and may benefit from a step up in distance.

A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which tailed off, revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised a veterinary clearance must be provided, and that in light of the horse’s recent form, and poor performance in tonight’s event, the gelding’s nomination would be refused from TAB venues until its form improves at non-TAB venues.
