Hampered on jumping away. Jockey B. Pengelly advised he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position, however the horse began awkwardly and he was obliged to race in the second half of the field. He added he was able to improve with cover at a point near the 600m, and when rounding the home turn felt his mount was running into the race nicely, however the horse compounded over the concluding stages and was disappointing.

Stewards asked jockey D. Browne to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated after having a favourable run in the field with easy sectionals during the middle stages he was confident when rounding the home turn the horse would finish the race off well, however the gelding failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
