When asked to comment on the performance of his mount, jockey J. Byrne indicated he was disappointed with the performance of the horse and failed to respond to his riding from the 400m. Trainer D. Vandyke indicated that in light of today’s performance he would send the horse for a spell and was of the opinion that the gelding failed to run out a strong 1600m and it would be his intention that in the horse’s next preparation he would limit its runs to 1400m or shorter.

Trainer K. Lees was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Apprentice J. Van Overmeie advised that the horse settled in a favourable one-off position, however when the pace quickened at the 700m failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer K. Lees advised stewards that the gelding would now be sent for a short spell to be freshened up, and advised that he would report to stewards any condition that comes to his notice with the horse that may have had a bearing on today’s disappointing performance.
