He indicated the horse, in his opinion, had appreciated the step-up in distance, however was at a loss to explain the horse’s last start performance. Mr Nugent indicated he supported the gelding at its most recent start and was very disappointed, having had blood tests performed following the event which had failed to identify any problems. Change of tactics. To be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. Apprentice T. Williams was asked to comment on her reasons for riding the horse the horse in a forward position. Miss Williams confirmed she had been instructed to ride the horse further back in the field, however the horse began the race very well and rather than dramatically restrain the horse she elected to shift across to the fence when a view that horses to the outside may cross her and afford her cover. However this did not occur and she was obliged to race in the forward half of the field. Stewards noted
