Slow into stride. When asked to explain the performance of the gelding, jockey D. Smith advised that his mount, after being moderately away, did not travel at any stage of the event and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
