When questioned regarding his riding of the mare, Jockey explained that he had been instructed to take up a position with cover. He said that after beginning particularly well from the outside barrier, when runners to his inside showed superior speed he elected to restrain his mount in an attempt to find cover. He said that the only way this could be achieved was to restrain to the tail of the field, where his mount travelled comfortably throughout, and after obtaining clear running on the rail in the straight the mare ran on well. The explanation was noted.
