The explanation tendered by trainer R. Hawkswell for the late declaration of J. Woodhouse as the rider of the horse was accepted. Apprentice J. Woodhouse was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer R. Hawkswell reported the horse ran on well last start after racing wide in that event, and that it had been working well and was confident of a forward showing in today’s event. He added that it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell.
