Bumped and became unbalanced near the 1900m. Jockey A. Fancourt permitted her mount to stride forward from a point approaching the 1400m and obtained the leading position near the 1200m.

Commenced to yield ground from the 1100m before being retired from the race near the 500m at which point the gelding collapsed and died. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a significant bleeding attack. Blood and urine samples were taken from the gelding.
