When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Kropp advised that the instructions were for the mare to be in a handy position today if possible. He added that, after beginning well from the inside barrier, the mare was able to lead without pressure, and with the step up in distance it was able to dictate the tempo to suit. He went on to say that the mare was down significantly in class for today’s race, and when ridden in this manner it has previously performed well. Stewards noted the explanation.

After being crossed by TAINTED AFFAIR passing the 1000m, the mare commenced to overrace, and then laid in passing the 900m and slightly crowded BEAT ZA DRUM, and then continued to race keenly from that point. Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished in a rearward position. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-trainers T. and M. Sears advised that in light of the performance today, the horse will now be sent for an immediate spell.
