Jockey J. Byrne was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted in leading on the horse today, which is in contrast to its normal racing pattern. He explained that he had no specific instructions and from the wide barrier and due to the lack of early speed in the race he was able to obtain the lead without overly pressuring the horse. Stewards noted his explanation.

Byrne, rider EL CAMPEADOR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SKILFUL, resulting in SKILFUL clipping the heels of EL CAMPEADOR and losing ground. J. Byrne was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 13 August and to expire at midnight, 21 August.
