When asked for an explanation about the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice B. Nothdurft said the horse became fractious prior to the race and when forced wider approaching the home turn did not respond to his riding from that point and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slightly slower than normal post-race recovery.
