Restrained at the start from a wide barrier to find a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field. When asked to explain the tactics adopted, jockey J. Bayliss explained that after being moderately away he restrained to try to find a position closer to the rail. He added that at a point passing the 800m he was of the opinion that he did not want to shift wider on the course and track up behind ROMAN DOLL, which he believed would not take him into the race, and therefore he elected to wait and ride for luck.
