Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped YOU BETTER NOT. When questioned as to the tactics, Jockey L Dittman stated he was instructed to obtain a midfield position. Jockey Dittman added that the gelding began better than expected and when racing to the outside of OLD TEX in the early stages he attempted to restrain the gelding to obtain cover behind that runner but was unable to do so. As a consequence, he was obliged to race wide in the early stages and therefore allowed the gelding to stride forward to the lead. Trainer K Wood confirmed the instructions.
