Quest’d re tactics where gelding led in contrast to its racing pattern. App. stated recent starts horse ridden in rearward position, been unable to improve into race despite efforts. Instructions today be positive out of barriers, take up forward position. Trainer questioned re tactics. Instructions to settle mid-field position if possible not necessarily to lead. Surprised took up the lead however not disappointed due to slow tempo throughout. Stewards reminded Ms Garrett of her obligations to notify Stewards before the race should the instructions change. Vet exam - cut tongue.

Slow to begin. Questioned re tactics - instructions take up forward position. Began only fairly. View would have to overly pressure mount an improve around field to obtain position. Elected to maintain position with cover was of view able to improve into race passing 600m. Passing 600m gelding unable to improve despite his efforts. Proved disappointing. He attributed to heavy track conditions. Also belief gelding may have come to end of preparation.
