After passing the 500m was placed under pressure and failed to respond and in the home straight proved disappointing. When asked to comment on the performance, Trainer M. Wilson advised that even though FANX raced in a forward position, he is of the opinion that FANX is better suited when allowed to lead and dictate terms. As the gelding was unable to do that today, this may have had some bearing on its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
