Raced 3 wide without cover. Rider said from the wide draw he let the horse stride forward, however was unable to find a position closer than 3 wide. When asked why he did not elect to stride forward and cross runners to his inside, he said in his opinion the tempo of the race was solid and he was concerned that he would have had to make too much use of the horse to gain a position closer to the rail and therefore allowed it to travel comfortably and improve into the race of its own accord. He thought the track towards the rail was inferior and he was comfortable to remain racing 3 wide.
