After blood was noticed in its mouth the horse was examined behind the barriers by the veterinary surgeon, who reported that the gelding had a minor laceration on its tongue, and was cleared to race. Jumped very awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost ground. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running as a result.

Hill was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Hill undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to light in ensuing days which may have had an effect on the performance.
