Prior to the commencement of the meeting trainer advised stewards that it was the intention to have the gelding ridden in the second half of the field today. Public announcements were made to that effect and the horse was ridden accordingly. Inclined to race keenly early and weakened at the home turn.

When questioned regarding performance Apprentice explained that the mare which was having its first attempt at the distance commenced to overrace when another runner improved to its outside and then near the 700 metres had to be steadied away from the heels of another runner which commenced to weaken. He added that the mare failed to respond when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
