When questioned Jockey said that after beginning fairly and when runners to his inside showed superior speed, he elected to ride his mount in a rearward position with cover, where it travelled comfortably throughout, however after being inconvenienced near the 700 metres lost further ground. He said that approaching the home turn he was in a winnable position, however the gelding failed to respond to his riding and went to the finish only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which hung in badly in the straight resulting in its rider being unable to place his mount under pressure, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer was told that prior to racing it must perform satisfactorily in a trial.
