When questioned regarding her riding of the mare, Apprentice explained that she had been instructed to take up a midfield position, however after beginning awkwardly she rode her mount along to obtain a favourable position, where the mare travelled strongly. However, shortly after straightening she attempted to improve to the inside of another runner but was disappointed for that run and as a result was held up for the entirety of the home straight and went to the finish without being tested. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

The start was delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load into the barriers. As the start was effected became fractious and lost considerable ground. Trainer was told that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
