Stewards afforded Apprentice the opportunity to comment on the seemingly disappointing performance of the mare. He stated that his instuctions were to lead in today's event however he was challenged for the lead by another runner and as a result he was unable to obtain the lead on his own. He added that he was of the view that this had a detrimental effect on the mare's performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was displaying a slow recovery rate.
