Made contact with the hindquarters of another runner at the start. Stewards inquired into performance. Rider said that he was instructed to take up position at rear of field close to running rail. After beginning fairly he was positioned worse than midfield when other runners improved to his inside, and he anticipated taking up a position midfield, to the outside of FIRST PLAN. However he was obliged to race 3 wide and was unable to obtain a position further back. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was showing a poor post-race recovery.
