Tightened for room near the 600m by another runner and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn and had some difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Tightened for room shortly after the start. When the pace slackened near the 900m, the gelding commenced to overrace at the 800m and had to be restrained from heels. ROYAL ATOM continued to raced ungenerously for the remainder of the event. A warning was placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
