The start was delayed when jockey P. Hammersley requested to have his mount examined by the veterinary surgeon. Subsequently the gelding was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout whilst inclined to lay in.

Jockey R. Stewart was asked to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated he had been obliged to do more work than he would have liked in the early stages in order to cross to the lead, however the horse was still, in his opinion, disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse was showing signs of a low grade respiratory infection. Trainer B. Lockwood advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
