J. Byrne reported that although it had been his intention to possibly lead, his mount did not begin as well as anticipated and was quickly crossed in the early stages and then raced very greenly throughout the event, overraced onto heels on a number of occasions and had to be checked from heels near the 800m and again when held up for clear running between the 500m and the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other that it had a poor post-race recovery rate.
